Meet the Speakers

Jessica Sewell

Jessica Sewell, MVCC, BAS, LVT, CVT, RVT, LVMT, CPhT

National Director of Career Progression, VCA Animal Hospitals

Jessica serves as the Director for Career Progression for VCA Animal Hospitals and has been with the company since 2005. She is particularly interested in emergency and critical care, career and leadership development, mentoring, public speaking, and teaching. Jessica graduated from Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia with her associate’s degree in veterinary technology in 2003. In 2011, she earned her bachelor’s in veterinary technology from Florida’s St. Petersburg College and, in December 2023, earned her master’s in veterinary clinical care from Lincoln Memorial University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a QPR-certified suicide gatekeeper and has previously held certification as a compassion fatigue professional. Jessica is deeply committed to veterinary medicine. In 2021, Jessica was selected to become the first veterinary technician to serve on the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine; in December 2023 she was elected to the Vice Chair. Among various other boards and committees, she sits on the executive board of the Georgia Veterinary Technician & Assistants Association (GVTAA) as their current President and has committee involvement with the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA). Previously, Jessica worked at Auburn University as an ICU Supervisor in the Small Animal Teaching Hospital. She has also taught as adjunct faculty in the Veterinary Technology Program of a local technical college in Georgia. Born and raised in Georgia, Jessica still resides there today with her cats and one dog, Andrew.
